Meet our Careers Adviser
At Killarney Heights High School, our Careers Office is led by our dedicated Careers Adviser, Ms Kiara Williams. She supports and guides students as they plan their pathways beyond school and work towards careers they’ll love.
Booking Careers Appointments
Students in Years 10–12 can request careers appointments online. This system makes it easier to manage appointment times, prioritise urgent cases and ensure every student gets the support they need.
- How to book: Use the QR code outside the Careers Office, the Library front desk or the Senior Study Room. The booking link is also available on each year group’s Google Classroom.
Focus for individual careers appointments:
- Term 1: Year 12 students
- Term 2: Year 10 and 12 students
- Term 3: Year 10 and 12 students
- Term 4: Year 11 students
At Killarney Heights High School we support students preparing for tertiary education at university and college through information sessions, workshops, providing resources on the year group’s Google Classroom and participating in Future Pathway Interviews.
Students are encouraged to apply for Early Entry, Scholarships, Cadetships, and the Schools Recommendation Entry Scheme. University visits and open days are advertised, and students are encouraged to attend, particularly in Year 10 and 11.
Resources:
TVET courses are run by TAFE and also offer dual accreditation – they count towards the HSC and give students a nationally recognised certificate, depending on the course length.
Students in Years 11 and 12 can study TAFE courses through TVET. Students in Years 10 have the opportunity to experience a taste of TAFE in the Start Your Future (SYF) program. TVET and SYF courses are advertised on the year group’s Google Classroom.
TVET courses for the following year are released in July of the current year, with students needing to complete an Expression of Interest by August 31. For example - a Year 10 student wanting to apply for a TVET course in 2026 will explore the course offerings in July 2025, and submit an EOI by August 31 2025. Offers are released in November.
Resources
SBATs let students earn a VET qualification and their HSC at the same time. Students work one day a week in paid employment, gaining real skills and experience in the workplace.
A School Based Apprenticeship allows students to start the first year of a trade qualification while completing Years 11 and 12.
All SBAT opportunities must be discussed and approved by the Careers Adviser before starting.
Find out more at: School-based apprenticeships and traineeships
SBATs must begin in Term 4 Year 10 or Term 1 of Year 11. Students must be assessed as suitable before the Principal can approve.
Helpful Resources:
Work Experience is a valuable program where students are able to explore a range of industries and workplaces with the security and support of their school. Work experience is available for students in Years 9-12 throughout the year. Year 10 students have the opportunity to participate in the Killarney Work Experience program in Week 5 Term 4.
If students are interested in participating in work experience, they need to book an appointment with the Careers Adviser. Year 10 students will be communicated with about their work experience week on the Year 10 Google Classroom, year meetings in Terms 2-3 and an email to parents in Term 2.
