NSW public schools offer special religious education and special education in ethics, delivered by approved providers wherever available.
During enrolment, you can choose a special religious education option for your child from the school’s available approved providers. You can withdraw your child from special religious education by selecting alternative meaningful activities, or special education in ethics if it’s available.
You can update your preference by writing to the school or through the online form available at participating schools.
Visit the department’s website for more information about religion and ethics.
Scripture classes at Killarney Heights High School are held on a Friday, once a term. The students are usually grouped by year, eg Period 2 Year 7&8, Period 3 years 9&10, period 4 years 11&12.
Parents nominate at enrolment whether they wish their child to go to scripture. This permission can be withdrawn at any time, by sending an email to the school .killarney-h.school@det.nsw.edu.au
The Christian churches from the local area provide teachers, all of whom hold a WWCC and are checked by our probity system. Each scripture teacher wears a badge identifying themselves.
The curriculum for scripture is found in here.
If students or their parents choose not to give permission to go to scripture, they will stay in their regular classes, where they will read or do private study. The teachers do not teach new material, ensuring that the students who go to scripture do not miss out on any work for their lessons.
