KHHS coming up Roses

Killarney Heights High School has blitzed the field in HSC English this year. The school achieved 4th place on the NSW English HSC merit list for 2018, meaning the school came first out of all non-selective schools in the state.

The school continues the tradition of excellent results in English that was set by the former head of English Harvey Rose. Co-incidentally the new head of English is Katie Rose, but is no relation to the former Mayor of Pittwater.

53% of the Advanced cohort achieved a band 6 result, with a further 45% achieving a band 5.

‘The research tells us that the quality of the teacher has the most significant impact on student learning and our teachers have a great rapport with students to make every lesson count’ said Principal Hayley Emmerton.

‘I’m so lucky to lead group of expert teachers who are passionate about their subject and committed to ensuring every student achieves their potential in English.’ said English Head Teacher Katie Rose

Student Madison Perry came 15th in the state for Advanced English, also achieving the top band in Extension 1 English.

‘I was completely shocked to achieve 15th place. I could never have achieved this result without the expertise and support of my teacher, Ms Rose.’ Maddison Perry commented.

The school’s Standard English cohort also achieved some exemplary results, 20% of students achieving results in the top 2 bands compared to 15% of the state.

These results come as Killarney Heights High School has moved from into 87th place on the list of top 200 schools in NSW, making into the top 10 public schools in the state.
